Rockwood Music Hall Stage 3
Sublime, Ethereal, Heavenly…just a few of the adjectives that conjure up thoughts of this past Friday evening’s dazzling Everything Turned to Color performance at Rockwood Music Hall’s Stage 3. Having both interviewed and covering the band the last couple of years, it was obvious that this was going to be a night of lush melody, light and symphonic indulgence.
With a pre-show air of excitement that carried over to the intimate stage, the New York City based trio kicked off their venue residency by bringing musical magic to a sellout crowd of family, friends and enthusiasts. Brothers Bryan Weber (vocals and acoustic guitar) & Kyle Weber (vocals, electric guitar, percussion), and Neha Jiwrajka (vocals, piano, percussion and ukulele) delivered yet another stellar and acclaimed performance worthy of the praise that has been heaped upon them by industry publications and producers alike.
Celebrating the success of the band’s 2017 debut album, Life Imagined, as well as sprinkling in new material and classics by The Beatles and Ella Fitzgerald, Everything Turned to Color turned a foggy, grey, rainy NYC evening into a canvas of painted harmonious luminosity.
Beginning the set that went by much too quickly was “When You Wish Me There” from Life Imagined, full of the technicolor and melodious collaboration that Bryan, Kyle and Neha are known for…. a simply flawless opening number.
There were plenty of noteworthy highlights…moments where the crowd was utterly entranced and moved by the lyrical and musical gifts these three possess. Whether it was when they played new material like the peaceful “Trip Around the Sun”, Ella Fitzgerald/Louis Armstrong’s “Moonlight in Vermont,” The Beatles “Norwegian Wood” with Bryan and Neha singing together, the musical prayer of “Hung Atop the Heavens” from Life Imagined, or fan favorite—“Something to Live For”, also from the debut album, there was something that touched literally everyone in the packed Stage 3 space. The surprise addition of another Beatles classic, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, delivered some of the absolute loudest applause of the evening—a song so revered by music aficionados, that it takes only the most confident of musicians to attempt to perform it.
After wrapping the colorful night with “Once Upon a Lifetime”, as the crowd sang along with the band in unison…. keeping up with Neha on her ukulele, they were met with a tremendous ovation as Everything Turned to Color expressed their gratitude to all who came out to celebrate with them! Their star is on the rise and it was a privilege to again witness it.
Be sure to catch these special musicians whenever you’re able, as they will surely inspire and provide brilliant hues that will touch your heart & soul.
