20190205-_DSC4678Hudson Taylor returned to New York City after playing four sold out shows last September, three were opening for Hozier and one solo show at City Winery. Hearing music played stripped down to acoustic instruments and singing is the purest form of live music. These brothers from Dublin, Ireland showcased their talents in songwriting and beautiful harmonies. Harry and Alfie Hudson-Taylor, accompanied by Oisin Walsh-Peelo and Tadhg Walsh-Peelo, played for nearly two hours, sharing their brilliant songs which combine styles of Irish folk and American pop.

With harmonies like classic acts like Crosby Stills and 20190205-_DSC4675Nash, and Simon and Garfunkel to current artists such as Mumford and Sons and Fleet Foxes they flawlessly combine old school and new to create their own brand of catchy sing-alongs for all to enjoy. Lead singer Alfie switched between guitar and an authentic Irish handheld hollow drum, a bodhrán, while his brother Harry sang and played guitar, and Oisin and Tadhg Walsh-Peelo played piano, harmonica, guitar, and mandolin.

The near-capacity crowd danced and sang along to every word. Hudson Taylor delivered pop songs masked by folk music mixed with some rock. There’s something for everyone in their music and I’m sure each time they tour the states they will play for larger and larger crowds. They’re currently on tour promoting their latest release Bear Creek to Dame Street. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen or catch them live where you’ll be left wanting more like the crowd at City Winery.
